Acne - also referred to as acne vulgaris - is a problem that is able to occur not just in women - but also in many adults. Women are the most common too suffer from this problem when they are in their middle to late twenties even if they never had any sort of problems while they were teens.

Blackheads

Blackheads - also known as comedones - are small, white, flesh colored, or dark marks that will be rough to the touch. They will appear on the surface of the opening of the sebaceous follicle (the pores) on the person’s chin or forehead. They are usually black giving the appearance that they are covered in dirt - which is why many believe that is the cause of them. However, this is simply a surface pigment.

Whiteheads

Whiteheads are a different type of comedone that appears on follicles filled with sebum and cells that have been sloughed off. It does not allow any air to enter into the follicle leaving it unable to be oxidized. That is why it will keep its white color.

Cysts

These are deep pimples that contain a certain amount of pus. The pus does not actually hold any amount of bacteria that would be considered infectious.
